Cold Chain Innovation at Hyderabad Airport

GMR Aero Cargo & Logistics unveiled India's inaugural airside reefer truck at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday. This development marks a significant advancement in managing temperature-controlled cargo operations.

The truck is purpose-built to maintain the integrity of the cold chain during crucial movements of temperature-sensitive goods between the cargo terminal and aircraft. This innovation directly addresses the long-standing challenge of temperature fluctuations during ramp transfers.

Enhanced Cargo Handling Capabilities

This new facility eliminates the exposure of perishables, pharmaceuticals, and biological cargo to ambient temperatures during transit. The reefer truck can precisely control temperatures ranging from +2°C to +25°C, accommodating a wide array of products.

These include vital pharmaceuticals, fresh produce, flowers, seafood, dairy items, and other perishable goods that demand stringent temperature regulation throughout their journey.

Global Hub Ambitions

Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, stated that the introduction of the airside reefer truck underscores the company's dedication to operational excellence. He believes this initiative positions Hyderabad among leading global cargo hubs.

"By ensuring uninterrupted cold-chain integrity from the terminal to the aircraft, we are setting new benchmarks in perishable and pharmaceutical logistics and reinforcing India's growing role as a global hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and perishable exports," Panicker remarked. He added that this capability would bolster customer confidence in handling critical, temperature-sensitive shipments.
