Iran Shuts Airspace, Sparks Flight Disruptions for Air India and IndiGo

Air India and IndiGo are warning passengers of significant disruptions to international flight operations after Iran closed its airspace early Thursday. The shutdown, lasting over two hours, is a direct consequence of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States.

Operational Challenges

Air India stated that flights overflying the region are now utilizing alternative routes, which inherently leads to delays. For routes where rerouting is not feasible, the airline has been compelled to cancel several flights. "Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace, and in view of the safety of our passengers, Air India flights overflying the region are now using an alternative routing, which may lead to delays," the carrier announced. Some flights have been cancelled where rerouting was not possible.

IndiGo echoed similar concerns, noting that the sudden airspace closure by Iran has impacted several of its international routes. The airline is actively assessing the situation and working to provide affected customers with the best available alternatives. "This development is beyond our control, and we regret the disruption it may have caused to your travel plans," IndiGo communicated to its passengers.
